Tedx Talk 2018 ” Biggest day in my life”

It’s never easy to get a chance to attend Tedx Talks event freely and representing your Organization in that talk event. Today i’m reflecting about how i got a chance to attend in Tedx Talk 2018 Hyderabad ………….

So many people have a dream to speak or participate in the Tedx event and i’m very happy and lucky to attend this program, i’m very thankful to Miss.”Vyshali Sagar” mam who offered me as well as my sister to attend this event with free of cost and gaven a chance to represent my organization. X= independently Organized event. In the spirit of ideas worth Spreading, Tedx is a program of local, self organized events that bring people together to share their knowledge, Experiences etc., The event organizers or sponsors of the tedx talk event bring some well figures in the society and ask them to speak on the stage, the great figures in the society share their experiences and challenges faced in their life and so on… you wouldn’t even worried about a time when you in the middle of Tedx Talk and the food items at the event are more delicious than talks.

In the year of 2018 in the middle of one fine evening got a call from Vishyali and saying about and register it also made a call to my sister Sailaja and saying same to her. There is a story behind getting the free offer to attend this event is “In the auguest 2018 College Connect Program held in my college conducted by the TV5 in that program they ask students to rise their doubts behind the engineering and tech releated to knock out the problems in the society, in that program I and my sister sailaja were performed beautifuly by seeing my and my sister performance

Me and my siste performing in college connect program

Mr. Jignesh sir who attended to this program as a mentor as well as a speaker later on after end of the program he made a call to my College and he requested my college management to send Lokesh and sailaja to Tedx Program and then vishali mam came in contact with us ” this is the story behind it. We neglected that offer because of Mid examination’s and suddenly things has been changed mid examinations were postponed and i feel somewhat relaxes , But one fine morning suddenly i felt into illness and i taken a leave for 2days to attend the college. The MBA department HOD Miss. RUma Devi asked my sister Sailaja to come and met her and my sister went to meet the and the was serious addressed my sister as well as me like ” You and your brother have any you are miss using this offer (Uma Mam) didn’t even got offer like what you people got” So keep all the things aside and apply for Tedx Talk in Hyderabad, On next day went to college suddenly in my department as well as my friend’s seeing differently and praising me for getting this offer even they don’t know about Tedx.

Everything is going well and fine at that moment Suddenly twist in my life taken , affected with “Jaundice” but on the next day we have to go Hyderabad Tedx Talk Event on Sep 26 2018. There is almost a sense of panic and uncertainty either have to go or drop Doctor who treated me said strongly don’t go for and don’t eat outside food as well as water. Here Comes the image the hard Lokie taken all odd things didn’t made back step and attend that event, But to attend that event my sister Sailaja supported and stand with me the way my sister engaged with me boost to me and because of that boost only i’m able to manage attend that event with out taking any food just by drinking the water. We met Vishali mam over there . You Know onething the ticket for tedx event is arround 5ooo-1000rs, But due to offer from Vishali mam i and my sister attended this event freely.

I met one person name “Lahari” over tedx event she eventually became one of the best person in my life . I and my sister were standing as a worrier in the field without weapon and what to do, But due to lahari akka spontaneously came to us introduce her self and she stand with us till the end of the day.

with My sister and Lahari Akka

One of the greatest day in my life is Tedx Talk event day, because i shared this event with my sister sailaja and representing my organization ohh dear that’s a wonderful memory and listen to greatest figures words and finally event completed and we left with courage and little bit sad because of missing all the happiness in that place.

Last but not least i and my sister sailaja been very thank ful to vishali mam , to my college , to my friends and lahari akka for supporting and believing me and giving such big opportunities . This day this event was one of the biggest achievement in my life.

Journey that remains in the history of the CBIT Civil Department

It’s not very easy thing to create history by participating in the live computation, i.e., Winning the Prizes in PPT Computations part of Technical Fest………and it’s created by me

Technical guests are the biggest test for B. Tech guys where they can enhance their talent, Skill, Network of making good friends, etc.,

Almost all the engineering colleges host these kind of technical Fest or A national Level Symponism where hosting college sends invitations to all the colleges in District or in the state by asking the students to Participate in the Tech Fest and win lots of prizes, But the some college Management wouldn’t encourage students to go and participate in the Tech Fest. The Tech Fest includes the Programs like Power Point or Poster Presentation’s, Model Expo, Workshops, Quiz etc., Most of the students prefer to participate in the Workshops only few students who are not scared about stage fear or who are thinking to enhance his/her communication skill’s participate in the Power Point Presentation.

I started my tech Fest Power Point Presentation journey when was in 2year of Tech course in 2018 at S.V.C.E College, Tirupati at that time was scared who to give my of 15-20 students and of 2-3Judges who were in the field of Civil Engineering at that time in my college no senior came to juniors classes and tells about the various Tech Fest and how to deliver well in the PPT specially from my CE , keeping these matters aside from my mind and delivered my presentation at my best. At the end of all presentations the students of that college came to me and said ” Bro you did a very good job and we were surprised to see the student from 2y explaining the topic of 3year” and they become friends to me Now it’s about to declare the winners of PPT as well as my SVCE college friends expected that will get the prize, But the Prize and was disappointed at that moment and this is my First ever PPT participation in Tech Fest. PPT Topic Name “About Permeable Concrete”

After a long gap almost 1year i went to particpate in the Tech Fest hosting by the K.S.R.M College, Kadapa. K.S.R.M is one of the top most engineering colleges in Kadapa District especially for Civil Engineering. The Topic which i was presented there is ” Special Concrete”. This is my 2 PPT in Tech Fest nearly 30 members were came to gave their PPT from various colleges as well as from hosting college and i finished my presentation in 10min and Viva happened around 12-15 min , My presentation is the last Presentation before the Lunch and 10 more Presentations to go for end of the Fest. At the time of lunch so many people came to me and appreciating my presentation skills and finally the time was arrived to declare the winner of PPT computations and my name was announced as winner and got the 1prize and 1200rs as prize money. This was happened in 2019 march. After 1 week gap i went to participate in tech Fest hosted by St.Josph Engineering College, Yerrakota(M), Kurnool (Dt) the reception from the St.Josph Engineering college civil students was gaven me a great pleasure, with my inspiration words that college students participated in Tech Fest in PPT Computation, Unfortunately i lost in that computation, But won their hearts and then one friend from that college arrange all the facilities for me in Matralyama.

15 2019 on the occasion of Dr.K.L.Rao sir birthday the Indian Institute Of Engineers (IIE) hosted a Seminar on “Optimum Utilization of Water” in Vijayawada I tried with new , this seminar usually want to give singularly, But this time incorporate with my friend to give . That day and that computation remains me as well as to my friend as the worst day and worst seminar computation, because of the management of IIE failed to arrange the seminar firstly they said only 30 people have to attend and present seminar , But due to some reasons suddenly they their is no limit and then 100 people are attended to give their seminar for each team they 3min of time to complete their presentation and i and my friend presented our seminar topic an “Optimum utilization of Kundu Flood Water” and the reset of the team members presented the Google Topics and won the prizes , we felt depressed and got so much angry and leave that place

After Loosing Consecutive PPT Computation changed myself and focused on my communication more and more and how to arrange the topics for 10-12min of Presentation and waiting for the Tech Fest’s. Then the time in Sep 2019 the S.V.E.C , , JNTU , SRIT Proddatur planned to host the tech in their colleges on consecutive dates 24,25,26&27 We are very well known that in the month of July, Sep chances of Floods in A.P state and Floods has been in the month of .

On Sep 25 2019 i went to S.V.E.C College, Kadapa and presented my seminar topic on “A Case Study on Interlinking of Rivers and Diverting Kundu Flood Water” upto my presentations on this topic the judges who sited infront of me they were surprised to see these kind of paper and presentation and gaven 1st prize with cash money and from there onwards i won the consecutive 1st prizes in the Jntu Pulivendula, SRIT, Proddatur

                                                          Me while taking the Prize.

On next day 26 sep 2019 tech fest was happened in JNTU Pulivendula. For this fest I attend with my Littlie Sister “Sailaja” and we together presented seminar on “A case study on Interlinking of Rivers and Diverting Kundu Flood water” . we enhance our network and made do many friends over there and same thing happened judges got surprised to see my paper and presentation. This fest is very very special to me because I shared stage with my littlie sister

With my sister taking the 1st prize

With My sister sharing the stage

On the Next Day 27 sep I went to SRIT Proddatur to present my ppt and the same thing happened what was in S.V.C.E Kadapa, JNTU Pulivendula they were surprised and announced my name as 1prize winner.

These 3 consecutive wins made history in CBIT College Civil Dept and the redemption is fine and well

In March 14 2020 again I went to attend tech fest in KSRM college Kadapa and presented my seminar and won the 1st prize, But the prize distribution held on next day and due to Project Review I didn’t attended to take my prize distribution and behalf of me my junior from 2y civil lasya taken the prize

My Junior taking the prize on behalf of me.

Totally participated 8 PPT Computations and won the 5 first  prizes

“If you explore your talent then history will create and recreated” and i’m really happy to repeat the feet of consecutive wins in PPT Compitation and proven i’m strong in my own Backyard and i’m thankfull to each and every person especially to my sister

Due to this kind of achievements juniors from various branches of my college taken my story as inspire and they are trying to do so…

The MSME “A New era “

Hi mates today I’m reflecting my golden days in the 4 years of my B. Tech Career i.e., “The MSME SIYB Program” Some workshops last for 3/5 days, their last for 21days which increased my Reputation in the CBIT College, Proddatur. The Main theme of this program is “To develop Business skills over Engineering Students all over India in various engineering colleges, from CITD Hyderabad the MSME Directors decided to Conduct MSME SIYB Program in 10 engineering colleges in A.P out of these 10 Colleges CBIT Proddatur was selected. The MSME SIYB Program Comes Up with a Proposal that we need 25-30 students from Various streams of Engineering Courses and then we (MSME) train them in the business game. CBIT Management asked each department HOD’s to screen the students who were really interested in business and from CIVIL Department 4 members are selected out of this 4 members i am the one.

On the first day of my workshop me and my friends really felt an enthusiastic and little bit nervous, what’s going to happen and who were the trainers and How they are going to deal with us and like few other questions were run in our mind and suddenly the atmosphere were totally changed , because of our trainers they trained and support us and also one of the most interesting thing was they train us based on our mindset and skill , moreover apart from business skills we learned so many life skills and we engaged with that skills . In 21 days program we visited some industries and we did a market survey in Proddatur town and we involved in group discussions about business.

Due to this program got more reputation in my college and among the trainers because of my involvement and Communication skills On 21st day the our College Chairman sir was attended as guest to the program, the trainers asked me to give on your own idea of your Chairman took as an honor and e my best after listening to my presentation chairman sir offered me 3lakh as a fund to Execute your business plan on the ground and that was the biggest compliment to me as well as to my department This day made one of the greatest day in my life from that day onwards the CBIT Management treated as a special student .

Apart from my side my friends Jagadeesh , Vijay, Samara delivered beautifully throughout the workshop and they come across the stage fear and i feel very happy y seeing the changes in there life

Every One feels one day time will come to his/her, But in my view Every day is your day when you perform . Finally i am really very ,very thankful to my department staff and to my college management, friends for giving this opportunity and for supporting me .

Basic terms and definitions related to Irrigation

Irrigation:

It is the artificial process of supplying water to fields from reservoirs or from storage structures through the canals.

Dam:

Dam is an artificial structure which is constructed across the river. The purpose of the dam is to

  • Store the water
  • Flood control
  • For Generation of Hydro Electric Power

Based on the shape, Material, Purpose dams are classified into following types

  • Gravity Dam
  • Butters Dam
  • Arch Dam
  • Earth Come Rockfill Dam
  • Timber Dam
  • Steel Dam
  • Coffer Dam

Reservoir:

Reservoir is an artificial lake or water body formed due to construction Dam; reservoir formed on the up-stream side of the Dam. Types of reservoir

  •  Subsidiary Reservoir (SR): It is the type of reservoir which gets water from other main reservoir through gravity canal. Simply it’s act as a substitute.

Example: Bramham Sagar Dam( SR2) , Telugu Ganaga Dam (SR1)

  •  Balancing Reservoir: A Balancing reservoir is a small reservoir constructed downstream of the main reservoir for holding water released from the main reservoir.

Example: Chitravati Balancing Reservoir (Y.S.R Kadapa)

  •  Storage Reservoir
  • Online Reservoir: The reservoir gets the water through Canal. For Example SRI&II

In the Telugu Ganga Diversion Scheme

Barrage: It is defined as the Structure which is constructed across the river with Gates throughout the length of the structure. Generally, Barrages are constructed near the Mouth of the of river or at Flat area.

                                                  Or

It is the Low obstructed Barrier

Weir or Anicut: It is the structure which is constructed to divert the water from the canal or any stream to another canal or stream. It is the Direct ayacut structure, generally this will construct where Construction of Aqueducts is not possible, they drop the water at Downstream and Drawn again with the help of Gravity.

Example: Rajole Anicut (Near Duvvuru (M), Y.S.R Kadapa (Dt)) etc.,

Check Dam: It’s same as Weir, but we called as Check Dam when we construct on the any small stream.

Head Regulators: It is the structure which is constructed on the River or reservoir to off take the water from the reservoir and distribute to various Canals.

Canal Regulator: It’s the structure at the head of the canal taking off water from a reservoir or river. Regulators are Normally aligned at 90 degree to the weir.

Catchment area: It’s the area which contribute the water to streams.

                                                         Or

It is a portion of land which catches the rain and produces runoff trough one out let. It is used to know how much yield we can get with this catchment area.

Watershed: It is nothing but it is the area where comes into irrigated on either side of the canal or river. It is the place where Sufficient water will available without any deficiency.

                                                                 Or

It is defined as any surface area from which runoff resulting from rainfall is collected and drained through a common point.

Spillway: Spillway is the Hydraulic Structure Constructed to discharge flood water

                                                           Or

Spillway is the structure from where surplus of water flowing from Up-stream side of the Dam to Down-stream side of the Dam. Spillways are classified into following ways

  • Ogee Spillway
  • Side Channel Spillway
  • Chute and Free fall spillway etc.,

Energy dissipator:

As water passes over a spillway and down the chute, potential energy converts into increasing kinetic energy. Failure to dissipate the water’s energy can lead to scouring and erosion at the dam’s toe (base). This can cause spillway damage and undermine the dam’s stability. The following are different type of energy dissipator:

  • Hydraulic jump stilling basins
  • Free jets and trajectory buckets
  • Roller buckets
  • Dissipation by spatial hydraulic jump
  • Impact type energy dissipaters

Canals:

Canals are waterways channels, or artificial waterways, for water conveyance, or to service water transport vehicles. They may also help with irrigation. It can be thought of as an artificial version of a river.

                                                                      Or

It is the artificial Channel Constructed to convey the water either from the dam or Reservoir for the purpose of irrigation, Navigation and to power generation on or below the natural surface by gravity.

Duty:

The term duty means the area of land that can be irrigated with unit volume of irrigation water. Duty represents the irrigating capacity of a unit. It is the relation the between the area of a crop irrigated and the quantity of irrigation water required during the entire period of the growth of that crop.

Delta:

It is the total depth of the water required by a crop during the entire period the crop is in the field and is denoted by the symbol ∆. For example, if a crop requires about 12 watering at an interval of 10 days, and a water depth of 10 cm. If the area under the crop is A hectares, the total quantity will be 1.20 X A = 1.2 A hectare-metres in a period of 120 days.

Base Period:

Base Period for a crop refers to the whole period of cultivation from the time when irrigation water is first issued for preparation of the ground for planting the crop, to its last watering before harvesting.

Crop Period:

The time period that elapses from the instant of its sowing to the instant of its harvesting is called the crop period.

Full Reservoir Level:

The full reservoir level (FRL) is the highest water level to which the water surface will rise during normal operating conditions.

Maximum water level (MWL):

The maximum water level is the maximum level to which the  water surface will rise when the design flood  passes over the spillway.

Dead storage: The volume of water held below the minimum pool level is called the dead storage. It is provided to cater for the sediment deposition by the impounding sediment laid in water. Normally it is equivalent to volume of sediment expected to be deposited in the reservoir during the design life reservoir.

Live/useful storage: The volume of water stored between the full reservoir level (FRL) and the minimum pool level is called the useful storage. It assures the supply of water for specific period to meet the demand.

Bank storage: is developed in the voids of soil cover in the reservoir area and becomes available as seepage of water when water levels drops down. It increases the reservoir capacity over and above that given by elevation storage curves.

Valley storage: The volume of water held by the natural river channel in its valley up to the top of its banks before the construction of a reservoir is called the valley storage. The valley storage depends upon the cross section of the river.

Flood/Surcharge storage: Is storage contained between maximum reservoir level and full reservoir levels. It varies with spillway capacity of dam for given design flood.

Gross Storage Capacity: It is the total quantity of water stored up to F.R.L. it includes dead storage also.

Live Storage Capacity: It is the difference between gross storage and dead storage. It is amount of water available from the F.R.L. to the still of lowest sluice.

Sluice: They are the openings extending from U/S face of the dam to D/S face of the dam. They are used to clean the silt from reservoir or to supply water to the D/S of the reservoir. Also, they decrease the peak flood in the reservoir.

Crest Level: The top most level of the Dam. Various components like Hoist Platforms, Rails Parapet Walls and Inspection Path (also serves are Roadway for Vehicular Movement) will be placed here.

Sill Level: It refers to the bottom of canal sluice and represents the level up to which a dam can be emptied by flow through Gravity. The storage above the sill level is known as “Live Storage” and below is known as “Dead Storage”

Free Board:  It is the margin provided between the top of the dam and H.F.L or M.F.L in the reservoir to prevent the splashing of the waves over the non-overflow section. It incidently also take care of any unforeseen floods in the reservoir.

CBR method for Flexible pavement :

Flexible pavement design by CBR method is used to determine the total thickness of pavement. Generally there are two methods to design the pavement from CBR (California bearing ratio) value. They are1. CBR method recommended by California state of highways

2. CBR method recommended by IRC

CBR method recommended by California state of highways:

Data required for flexible pavement design:

a. CBR value of soil subgrade

b. CBR value of sub base course

c. CBR value of base course

d. Wheel load in KG or KN

Wheel load is classified into three groups based on traffic conditions.

  • Light traffic(3175 KG)
  • Medium traffic(4082 KG)
  • Heavy traffic (5443 KG)
flexible pavement design by cbr method

Flexible Pavement Design Procedure:

Calculation of total thickness (T):

From the below chart for given CBR value of soil subgrade and Wheel load value select appropriate thick curve value of “combined thickness of surface, base and sub-base line” which will give the total thickness of pavement.

CBR method flexible pavement design by California state of highways

Calculation of sub base course thickness (tsb):

By using the above chart, for give CBR value of sub base course material and for wheel load read the thickness of pavement which is above the soil sub base. It is denoted as (Tsb). Which is highlighted by circle in the below fig. but here we have to find tsb.

Therefore, thickness of sub base course tsb =T – Tsb

Calculation of pavement sub-base course thickness

Calculation of base course thickness (tb):

Similar to the above procedure, from the CBR value of base course and wheel load read the value of thickness of pavement which is above the base course (ts). From this we can find out the value of tb. t= Tsb – ts

Therefore all the values of pavement are known and cross section of pavement is as follows.

Calculation of pavement base course thickness

CBR method recommended by IRC (Indian road congress):

In this method, the chart contains several curves (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G) which represents the different levels of traffic intensities. Based on this we will find out the layers thicknesses.

Data required for design:

a. CBR value of soil subgrade

b. CBR value of sub base course

c. CBR value of base course

d. Traffic intensity

Flexible Pavement Design Procedure:

Calculation of total thickness (T):

In this step, firstly for the given value of traffic intensity select appropriate curve from classification table which is shown in the below chart. Now, from the given CBR value of subgrade soil read the total thickness (T) with respect to selected curve.

CBR-method-flexible pavement design IRC Indian road congress

Calculation of sub base course thickness (tsb):

By using the above chart, for give CBR value of sub base course material and for traffic intensity value read the thickness of pavement which is above the soil sub base. It is denoted as (Tsb). Which is highlighted by circle in the below fig. but here we have to find tsb.

Therefore, thickness of sub base course tsb =T – Tsb

Calculation of base course thickness (tb):

Repeat the above procedure again, from the CBR value of base course and from traffic intensity value read the value of thickness of pavement which is above the base course (ts). From this we can find out the value of tb. t= Tsb – ts

Therefore all the values of pavement are known and cross section of pavement is as follows.
